    Indications

    -    Treatment of essential hypertension

    –   In patients with hypertension and with left ventricular hypertrophy

In hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy a reduced risk of stroke was demonstrated. The data do not support the use of losartan for this indication in black patients.

    -     Treatment of renal disease in patients with hypertension and diabetes type II with proteinuria ≥ 0,5 g/daily as a part of antihypertensive treatment.

    -    Treatment of chronic cardiac insufficiency (in patients ≥ 60 years) when a treatment with ACE inhibitors is not suitable due to incompatibility, especially cough or contraindications.

Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

    Indications

Cefuroxime is a bactericidal cephalosporinic antibiotic resistant to most beta-lactamases and active against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. Indicated for treatment of infections before the cause is determined, or infections caused by sensitive bacteria. In addition, cefuroxime makes for effective prophylaxis of post-operative infections in various types of surgical interventions. It is usually effective when used as a single drug but in certain cases it may be administered in combination with aminoglycozidic antibiotics or with metronidazole administered orally, or through a suppository, or injected.

    Therapeutic indications include:

    • Respiratory tract infections (e.g. acute and chronic bronchitis, infected bronchiectasis, community-acquired pneumonia, lung abscess and post-operative chest infections)
    • Ear, nose, and throat infections (e.g. sinusitis, tonsillitis and pharyngitis)
    • Genitourinary tract infections (e.g. acute and chrinic pyelonephritis, cystitis and symtomatic bacteriuria)
    • Soft tissue infections (e.g. cellulites, erysipelas, peritonitis and wound infections)
    • Bone and joint infections (e.g. osteomyelitis and septic arthritis)
    • Female genital tract infections (cervical inflammation disorder)
    • Gonorrhea: especially in cases of penicillin intolerance
    • Other infections, including septicemia and meningitis
    • Preoperative antibiotic prophylaxis of infections in surgical interventions in the abdominal, cervical, orthopedic, cardiac, esophageal, and chest surgery.

In the right circumstances cefuroxime may be administered before oral therapy with cefuroxime axetil for treatment of pneumonia and chronic bronchitis  in the acute phase.
