Metformin is an oral anti-diabetic drug in the biguanide class. It is the first-line drug of choice for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, particularly in overweight and obese people and those with normal kidney function.


Metformin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to lower blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise do not result in adequate glycemic control.

–         Metformin is indicated in audult as either monotherapy or in combination therapy with other antidiabetic drugs or insulin.

–         Metformin is indicated for decreasing diabetes-related complications in overweight patients with type 2 diabetes after a diet treatment has failed.
