    The project for emergency cardiac surgery treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases continues to expand. After the National Cardiology Hospital, Tokuda Hospital, the University Hospital St. Ekaterina the initiative of the BCI was joined by City Clinic Sofia. The program includes specialized medical airlift for patients in urgent need of life-saving cardiac surgery operation.

    Last week, October 16, 2014 from SHATC Veliko Tarnovo a 49 year old male 49, with data for myocardial infarction complicated by pulmonary congestion and expressed risk factors for ischemic heart disease, was transported by emergency.

    The patient was admitted at SHATC Veliko Tarnovo with stenocardiac pain, felt tightness, fatigue and shortness of breath. The invasive assessment showed critical narrowing of the coronary artery, obesity, diabetes and dyslipidemia. The patient had hypertension for 9 years.

    The man was flown to Sofia within 45 min. with a team from SHATC Veliko Tarnovo, consisting of a resuscitator and a nurse. In the capital they were met by an anesthesiologist and cardiac surgeon in order to perform rapidly operative revascularization.

    A successful public-private partnership involving the leading public and private hospitals specializing in cardiac surgery and interventional treatment of cardiovascular diseases is a promising model for the reform of the National Emergency System in Bulgaria.
