Record increase in sick pay funds by the NSSI. The amounts increase by millions according to the figures from the reference of the Social Security Institute.

It turns out that for the first nine months of the year, paid sick days have increased by more than 400 000. Will the budget if the NSSI stand and how the new members of parliament will deal with the situation is not clear.

For the first nine months the NSSI paid more than 11 000 000 sick leave days. In terms of money this is with more than BGN 17 milion more than in the last year. For the moment the funds are there, but till the end of the year there are still three months.

The NSSI budget increases. In parallel, however, the burden on employers is growing because they pay the first three days of sick pay of each employee. Before 2010 the employers were obliged to pay only for the first day of the sick leave, but during the GERB administration the period was increased to three days. The aim was to stop fraud.

The expectations were that thus the NSSI will pay less, but this did not happen. Since 2011, the expenses for sick pay not only are not declining, but are growing up a lot. The expenses of the companies are also growing. The effect is not there, acknowledged the former social minister Hasan Ademov.

Changes do not emerge in a package of proposals that the current social ministry is preparing for the next. We should not restore the old model, but to invent new, in GERB’s opinion. Employers, however, want the old model – to pay only the first day of sick leave of the employees.

The final decision is expected very doon because the budget for the next year knocks on the door.
